Allen Soyster, Ph.D.
Allen L. Soyster is currently professor and dean of the College of Engineering at Northeastern University. From 1981 to 1996, he was professor and head of the Industrial Engineering Department at Pennsylvania State University, where he was administrator of the Manufacturing Engineering Education Partnership and was responsible for assembling the faculty and staff of the Learning Factory and establishing the Industry Advisory Board. Dr. Soyster is the author or coauthor of more than 80 refereed journal articles published in IIE Transactions, Operations Research, Management Science, Naval Research Logistics, and other journals. The focus of his work is on production and manufacturing systems; mathematical programming and optimization; and transportation, natural resources, and energy.
In 1988, Dr. Soyster was named a Fellow of the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE). He was honored with the 1992 IIE Award for Technical Innovation, the 1993 Penn State Award for Outstanding Faculty Mentoring, and the 1994 Albert Holzman Outstanding IIE Educator Award. In 1997, he was selected a Fellow of the World Confederation of Productivity Science.
He earned a B.S. in industrial engineering from Pennsylvania State University, an M.S. in industrial engineering and operations research from Cornell University, and a Ph.D. in operations research from Carnegie Mellon University.
